MEET SCOTT

Scott Nevins is a proud Palm Springs resident, an outspoken healthcare, civil rights and LGBTQ+ advocate, political news contributor, and community leader with a long history of fighting for underrepresented groups. Scott is a Board Member at Palm Springs Sister Cities and Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, and he recently took on the role of adjunct producer of the acclaimed Cabaret 88 series at the Palm Springs Art Museum.

Scott focuses tirelessly on health equity, ensuring that his community has access to healthcare, affordable housing, fresh food, and safety networks. He has co-chaired “The Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards,” one of the Valley’s largest fundraising events, which supports a full spectrum of community healthcare needs, and his work as a host, political commentator, event producer and fundraiser has given him a wide-ranging skill set in marketing, branding, public relations, and executing plans on time and under budget.

Born and raised in a blue collar home in Queens, New York, Scott’s early life was heavily influenced by the multicultural nature of the city and its boroughs. He’s always counted himself and his brother lucky to grow up in “the most diverse place in the world,” and at an early age he gained a deep respect for celebrating that diversity, and an inherent desire to stand up for the marginalized.

One of his grandfathers was a NYPD Lieutenant, his father, his other grandfather, and a number of extended family members were New York City firefighters, including Gerard Nevins (FDNY, Rescue 1), who died at the World Trade Center on 9/11. Scott’s father was a veteran, having served his country before becoming a firefighter, later injured in the line of duty, and retired to became a small business owner. His mother is a long-time healthcare worker. First responders are the backbone of his family, and they inspired him to use his voice and talents to help raise money and awareness for organizations that are on the forefront of fighting for those who need a champion.

Scott has produced events and raised funds for national and local organizations like HRC, PFLAG, God’s Love We Deliver, The Matthew Shepard Foundation, Bring Change to Mind, The Point Foundation, Safe House of the Desert, Justice and Soul Foundation, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the NY & Los Angeles LGBT Centers, OUT & Equal Workplace Advocates,The Entertainment Community Fund (formally The Actors Fund), San Francisco AIDS Foundation, and The Front Runners NY, just to name a few.

Scott attended the State University of New York (SUNY) Purchase College, where he worked as a resident assistant to help cover the cost of housing. He took classes over the summer months, graduated early and moved to New York City to begin a career that would take him around the globe, performing his acclaimed solo shows to sold-out audiences, working with some of the industry’s biggest names, appearing on national TV on NBC, FOX, Bravo, CNN, CNN International and HLN, and hosting on Sirius Satellite Radio and KNews Radio. As a performer and TV personality, Scott gained national exposure on the BRAVO TV series “The People’s Couch,” and truTV’s hit show “truTV Presents: World’s Dumbest…”. Most recently, Scott worked as a political contributor for NewNowNext.com.

Scott was honored on OUT Magazine's prestigious OUT100 list, and is the recipient of the Out There Award and the Silver ADDY Award (from the American Advertising Federation) for his work as an LGBTQ+ and HIV Awareness Activist. He lives in Palm Springs, California with his husband, Philip, and their rescue dog, Wifi, who they adopted from the Palm Springs Animal Shelter. Scott and Philip married in April of 2022 in Palm Springs, after 3 postponements spanning two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Scott is a proud uncle and godfather to Ozzie, Juniper, Ace, and Dottie Mae.
